Portrait work  The most important thing in a portrait is the expression,  and it doesn't have to be a smile.

I've done a lot of family portraits, infants through adults, and many
pet portraitsI've photographed thousands of children, in schools, dance schools, candid shots, and formal portraits in a variety of styles, with many kinds of cameras.

I only do small weddings, and those only rarely.  My wedding style is more journalistic than formal.  I give my customers a choice of B/W or Color or both.

While most of my business is now in various kinds of commercial photography, I especially enjoy photographing young children and pets
so I make room in my schedule for requests.   Call for an appointment.
I'll travel to your location if you wish.  If I must travel far, however, I have to charge for travel.

I do a lot of pet photography.
Pet photography requires a certain knack with animals.
You have to work fast and be very patient.

There are many styles of portrait photography.

I prefer a simple style that emphasizes the personality and expression of the subject.
Portrait photography is challenging and you need to have a personality that is upbeat, lively, and sensitive.

Model portfolios

Top models get paid so much because they know how to produce the expressions
that sell products and services.
The best camera technique and print quality, however, cannot guarantee a great expression.
Since many people are shy in front of a camera, a photographer's skill
at establishing a rapport with the subject is crucial.
Subjects need to participate in the portrait by relaxing and having fun.

A good model needs more than attractive physical characteristics.
To model effectively you need a certain confidence and ability
to relax while you're being intensely focused on.   A good sense of humor also helps.
