Take a new approach to a bad economy

There’s a LOT we can do to survive, and even thrive, in the changing economy.

sell your books online ! get cash now

Many people don’t realize how valuable books can be.   Oddly enough, some books are getting rarer ( and more valuable ), because of the internet, collectors, and curious people who love to read.   Textbooks can  be worth a lot of money, but they must be current editions.   If you have textbooks to sell, do it soon before the new edition comes out.

Save money on food, buy local produce

Plus, get better food.    Food is medicine.    Bad food, bad health.

And, don’t support those huge chains that want you to “sign up” for a discount ( tracking ) card.  It tracks all your items, time of purchase, name, etc, and “gives” you a 20 dollar ham once a year, if you’re lucky to save up a couple million points.

Buy USED items to save money and planet

Save the planet from waste — buy USED items if you can

Have you ever been to a landfill or “dump” and seen what’s discarded there every day?

It could shock you.   I know someone who lived near a “dump” in a small wealthy town.    He made thousands of dollars a year selling stuff he got for free on Ebay.

In USA, in particular, consumer waste is downright frightening.   Aside from the fact that many metal and plastic items will survive in landfills for hundreds, if not thousands of years, the sheer waste is disgusting and sometimes dangerous.    Buy, buy, buy, bye-bye.    That’s how it works in USA, Europe, and increasingly around the world.    Among the consequences:   wasted energy, materials, oil ( many plastics use oil as one ingredient ), destruction of the environment, smells, dangerous chemicals released into soil and water……and much more.

One way to fight this trend is to buy, whenever possible, used products. Our world economy has created uncounted billions of products that often last a long time, but are quickly discarded into landfills that will last for hundreds, or thousands, of years.    For example, television sets.   A good TV will last a long, long time.   I have  one that is over 20 years old, still works fine.    And, when our large screen TV failed after only 3 years, instead of buying a new one for 800 USD, I bought a smaller, used one for 10 dollars.    I hardly notice the difference.   My quality of life and personal enjoyment has not decreased at all.    I haven’t bought a new car in over 20 years, but I get where I’m going just fine, and comfortably at that.    My current car is a Mercedes Benz, but it’s 8 years old and has over 110,000 miles on it.      I’ve owned it for 2 years and I love it, and I’ll keep it as long as it lasts.

Yet, manufacturers build new models of many products and cars every year in an effort to satisfy the insatiable demand for the latest gadgets.   A well made and maintained automobile can last 20 to 30 years, or even longer in some cases.   Nevertheless, millions and millions of them get discarded and crushed up each year.   Countless other products will also last a long time if taken care of. So, as often as possible, buy USED consumer products.    That frees up your money to pay down debt, buy other things you need, like food, or simply work less hours.   Working less means having more time, and time is priceless.

used watches can be an excellent value
Some people collect watches

If you’re running a small business and need office furniture or equipment, you can bet your last dollar there are plenty of  used items out there that will save you a ton of money. Things you may need that are available used in huge quantities include;   chairs, desks, shelving, file cabinets, copiers,  tools, fixtures, lamps….. the list is endless.     Now, if you save money on a desk or file cabinets, you can afford to buy new technology to give you an edge in speed and productivity.   I recommend Apple products, like the iPhone, iMac, and so on.   Ever since I switched to Mac computers, I have almost uninterrupted use without any hassles.   Sure, I paid a bit more, but so what.   My productivity increased enormously.  Oh, and my Apple laptop I got refurbished.   It’s still running fine almost 4 years later.   I use it every day.

Watch the video to learn about how a different attitude toward value and “investment”, will put you way ahead. And, learn about saving tons of money on used items like tools.  You can get stuff for pennies on the dollar, even free, and sell them, keep them, or share them.

Debt will destroy world economy

It’s only a matter of time before the world economy collapses under the crushing load of debt.

Borrowing money can be necessary and very useful, of course, but what’s happened in the last 75 years or so is that huge numbers of people are borrowing against an uncertain future, to satisfy short term desires for unnecessary consumer goods.     Governments around the world are doing likewise, setting up massive debt for our children and grandchildren to repay.   They will never be able to pay it back, so eventually, the whole house of cards will come tumbling down.   Right now, we in USA are paying the huge debt we inherited from previous generations, and we are groaning under the load, on the very brink of collapse.    Yet, we are still borrowing more.

It’s one thing to borrow money for a house to live in, get an education, or for governments to borrow to fix roads and bridges.   It’s quite another thing to rack up debt to go on vacation, fight a war, or support some frivolous government project.    The world has collectively dug itself into a massive debt hole, and consumer debt is now spreading all around the world to places like India, China, Indonesia, South America, and Africa.   The “modern” way of getting something today and paying for it later is a terrible addiction that will lead to disaster on a huge scale.

Buy now, pay 3 times what it’s worth later….

Most people who borrow on credit cards ( including many government officials )  do not do the math.    If you buy a 500 dollar stereo and pay 25 dollars a month on a 15 percent interest loan, you’ll end up paying around 3 times the cost of the stereo, just so you can have it today.    People do this all the time, and not just for one whimsical purchase.   They do it many, many times.    Racking up debt has become a lifestyle that’s deeply embedded in our culture.     Almost everyone does it.    This is insanity and it’s not sustainable.    At this moment in the United States, many states such as New York and California are deeply in debt and that debt is increasing daily, while at the same time there is a recession.   There is not enough tax revenue coming in to pay off the debt.    Consumers do not want any more taxes, of course.    So, what do these governments do?   Borrow more money, of course.    This gives the temporary illusion of solvency, but it’s passing the debt to future generations.

You don’t have to be a genius economist to figure our that sooner or later the whole thing will crash.   That should be quite obvious to anyone.    This is exactly what is happening right now around the world, and it will get much worse in the next decade.     You won’t hear a lot of politicians telling you this, however.  It’s not politically correct.    If the chairman of the U.S.A. Federal Reserve bank told the truth, the financial collapse would occur very fast.    So, he hides the truth, and the economy collapses more slowly.     Smart people should take a long, honest look at the facts and start living differently.

How on earth could the world economy NOT collapse  under these circumstances ?    To pay off these massive government debts we would need a lot more revenue, coming from taxes of one kind or another, and that’s not going to happen.   Politicians run for office on a platform of low taxes, but lots of government benefits.    It’s so silly, but it’s tragic.   That’s like saying you can have all you want, but it won’t cost you anything.   How stupid can you be?   Yet, that’s exactly what is happening.

If governments around the world are in financial trouble,  how do you think the average person is going to make it?

One way to fight this trend is to buy, whenever possible, used products. Our world economy has created uncounted billions of products that often last a long time, but are quickly discarded into landfills that will last for hundreds, or thousands, of years.    For example, television sets.   A good TV will last a long, long time.   I have  one that is over 20 years old, still works fine.    And, when our large screen TV failed after only 3 years, instead of buying a new one for 800 USD, I bought a smaller, used one for 10 dollars.    I hardly notice the difference.   My quality of life and personal enjoyment has not decreased at all.    Yet, manufacturers build new models of many products every year in an effort to satisfy the insatiable demand for the latest gadgets.   The same happens with cars.

Paper money…..worth its weight in paper.

A huge amount of so-called “assets” on the books of large corporations is entirely theoretical.   It’s based on the changing value of things like derivatives, stocks, and other financial “products”.    We have recently seen just how dangerous that is.    This problem has not gone away.    In fact, far from it.    After a lot of outcry and attempts to reform the system, it’s still going strong.    In addition, “assets” that are actually loans with interest payable to the company are entirely dependent on the ability of a person or other company to pay.   If the person supposed to pay has no income, that “asset” is basically worthless.    It may look good on a balance sheet, but it’s not real value;  it’s THEORETICAL value.     As the economy declines, more and more of these “assets” will get revalued, and those who own them will see a rapid decline of wealth.     Soon, what will matter more is not how much “paper” wealth one has, but how much food, tools, and other useful goods one has.    Think that can’t happen?   Think again.   It HAS happened many times before during various wars ( WW 1 and 2 ), and is happening right now in many parts of the world.   In some places interest rates for basic loans is 15 to 30 percent !    People have to fill a suitcase with money to buy groceries.

What has real value?

In a pinch, if you have tools, food, housing, vehicles, and other tangible goods, PLUS knowledge and skills and a network of cooperating associates, you’ll fare much better than someone who has a pile of money in a bank but is isolated and delusional about their “wealth”.     Gold may be good for trade as a form of accepted currency, but it has little practical value except to industry.    Tools, vehicles, fuel, food ( or ability to produce food ), housing, and useful skills will become increasingly valuable as time goes by.

Work from home… But be careful !

You can work anywhere these days, but keep focused.

I work from home and it’s not as easy as many people think.    There are so many distractions, and no “boss”, or “manager”, to keep you on your toes.    If you want to work from home, you will need self discipline and a real plan, measurable goals.     There are times you can’t tell if all that you’re doing is getting you anywhere.    Then, the phone rings, or an email.    Spring to work, a customer  !

If you have company in the home while you are working, it’s helpful to make clear boundaries, what is work time, what is not.    For those who work primarily in “cyberspace”,  it can appear to friends and family that you are not really doing anything and can be approached at any time, even if to talk about trivial stuff.

Some people find it’s more productive to do some of the work late at night, after children go to sleep for example.    Ahhh, quiet !

Your customer is your master to some degree.  No customer, no money, food, home car.    No sitting out on the deck with your laptop and iced-tea.

To work at home you need a plan.   Use checklists to make sure you get stuff done.   A short pencil is better than a long memory.  ( old pilot saying ).

How to finance your new business

“If I only had a lot of money, I could start a business and get rich”.. anonymous

Anyone who has tried to start a new business knows about one of the main obstacles — money.

Well, that’s a big subject, and there are many ways to get money, but just about every advisor I’ve heard repeats the same thing — start with your OWN resources. Don’t expect, or depend on, other people, to get your business rolling.

Now, that doesn’t mean investors won’t play a role in growing your business. It just means you should do every thing you can to bring your own resources to the table. There are some good habits that are great in business, and one of those is frugality. Be cheap, but not foolish, and you’ll save a lot of money.    Ask yourself how important is this new business?   If the answer is “critical to survival”, you’ll do everything you can imagine to make it work.

One way to “get” money is to save more of what you take in now.    The old adage “a penny saved is a penny earned” is very true.       Take a good look at what you spend money on, and why.    Then think of ways you can save money on basics, get rid of spending you don’t need.    You can take advantage of opportunities such as:   yard sales, thrift shops, ebay, neighbors, friends, money-earning hobbies, and much more.     I know someone who for 7 years earned thousands of dollars every year selling stuff he found free at the local dump.

If your new business needs office equipment and furniture, you can often get it for next to nothing these days.   Just look around, go to local thrift stores, or better yet, go to the “thrift stores” and yard sales in upscale towns and neighborhoods.   You’ll be surprised at what you find there and how low the prices are.

I just bought something, now what?

A lot of people buy money-making tools and downloads after getting all excited and caught up in the sales pitch.    Then, the big question;  now what do I do?

Read the instructions.   Very important.    To be fair to the person who created the product, one should at least try it, find out how it works, then apply what you learn.

Not all of the hyped-up “make money online” products are scams.  Far from it.   Problem is, many people don’t actually do what’s necessary.   Naturally they fail.   It’s like buying a great bicycle and not knowing how to ride it.    Does you no good at all.

Take notes as you read the instructions, highlight main points.   Make an action checklist.

Better yet, involve a friend or family member in your business.   You can collectively do more and understand better, divide up tasks, and inspire each other.

The value of living simply

“Live simply, that others may simply live.”

Temple in India

Temple in Manikaran, India

Ever wonder why most of the earth’s greatest teachers lived very simple lives ?

                 Time.    More time.

If you live simply there is more time to spend on everything, such as:

contemplation, recreation, health, education, family, appreciation, writing, teaching, creating, and rest.

For everything we own or posess physically or mentally, some time must be spent attending to it, fixing it, protecting it, worrying about it, and of course, paying for it, and finally, discarding it.

There’s nothing wrong with having abundant property.   It’s a practical matter.   We should know what the true cost of possessions is, and determine if it’s worth it.     How much stuff do we really need to be content and function efficiently in our work ?      At what point does owning things become more a burden than it’s worth ?

Many wise people figured this out a long time ago.    Live simply, efficiently, thoughtfully.    You’ll enjoy your life much more that way.

“Yeah, but modern life isn’t like that, I gotta have a lot of stuff”

To some extent that’s true, but there are many options:

For example, one can often rent or borrow things they like to use, but use rarely.   Instead, in our culture everyone has the same tool or object in their house or garage, gathering dust.   For example, a lawnmower.   Used once a week or so, for a couple of hours.    Cost:   Buy, store, maintain, repair, clean, and eventually discard.

Okay, so maybe we need a good lawnmower.   But what about all that other stuff we have that we haven’t used in 3 years, stuff we have totally forgotten about that were once so special we bought them  ?

Another example;  many people dream of owning a boat.    Then they get one and it costs so much time and effort to use it, store it, insure it, that after a few exciting uses it sits in the garage or yard, eventually to be sold to another dreamer.   A larger family can buy a boat or camper, and they all share it’s use and cost.     In Aviation, collective ownership of an expensive aircraft is common.   Why not apply the principle to other things, like riding mowers, beach homes, cabins, vacation properties, etc.

If you’ve never done so, spend a few hours at a local landfill transfer station and watch what people throw away these days.   It will amaze you.   I had a friend who used to sell stuff on Ebay that he got for free at the local dump.   He found an item once that he sold for 4,000 dollars.    He made many thousands per year just doing that.

The fact that there’s a huge industry devoted to getting rid of the stuff we no longer want should tell us something about ourselves as a culture.

If you need some cash quickly, take a good look around your house or neighborhood.    You can find something to sell on Ebay for a “buy it now” price.     Or, go to your town dump on a Saturday morning, especially in the springtime, and you could make hundreds of dollars a week extra, working from home.

In business, simplicity is also very valuable.

For example, many start-up companies buy a whole bunch of junk they don’t need, like luxury furniture, or top of the line, new equipment, or they rent a big office.   That can cause problems.   Young businesses in particular need to keep it simple.

Get what you really need, and use it well.   When the cash starts coming in, think carefully about where the money goes.    Do you really need a new computer, car, office ?

Give away things and time

One of the most powerful assets successful businesses have is goodwill.  It’s impossible to measure but it can sustain a business for a very long time.   If as a person, and in your business, you give generously and sincerely, the goodwill you create is magnetic to customers and other associates.    Trust.    To get it, give.

In an era of highway robbery, false claims, shot-gun style advertising, people stand out clearly when they pause, listen, and respond to their customers, suppliers, and employees.     Be different, be real.

This is the page where we post warnings.

Folks, please do your own research and pay attention.

There’s a lot of great information, tools, and products out there.  But there is rotten stuff out there too.    However, one bad apple is just that.    Get rid of it and we’re all better off.     If you know of, or hear of, something that is clearly a scam, and had multiple complaints to cross-reference it, please tell us.

DON’T BUY I fell for this one.   It’s promoted a lot by emails.

It goes like this Pay ONLY 1.95 ( to get on the hook ) for some “information” about making money with Google, hidden in all the tiny, tiny print in the “agreement” is you get hit for repeat billing of around 70 dollars, starting a week later.

For which, you go to ANOTHER site, and try to sign in for the big deal, but there’s no password given, can’t log in.   Try calling customer service and guess what ? cancel is only option, no other number, no supervisor, no real business owner or rep. is there, just a run-around, then he hangs up.

oh, and NO REFUND, of the cancellation.

If  company is good, it cares about its reputation and customers.    It will answer questions, be open, polite, and not hide.   Any sign of that avoidance and secrecy, it’s goodbye.   And tell other people so that company dies on the vine.

That said,

There’s the big picture to consider.

The internet is a huge, growing, and multi-dimensional market place.    You can sell electrons     (downloadable information products D.I.P)., or you can sell ships and aircraft, or lead.

Watch out for the sharks though.

If you stumble on a mistake, get burned, take heart.   You’re not alone.   And, learn a lesson from the experience that will save you money in the future.

In my case, I could have read reviews about the company FIRST, but I wasn’t paying attention.   I won’t do that again.

Here’s another scam

many complaints about them, do a Google search.   They keep billing you every month, don’t provide anything of value.

FOR MORE INFORMATION,  look through Google’s site under the user forums and frequent questions.

DON’T join this business networking site

First, they have no real customer service… just an automated answer system that ALWAYS says ” all agents are busy”.   Nobody ever calls back no matter how many times you call.  They don’t answer email, either.   I got nothing out of a year’s membership.   I didn’t find any valuable contacts.  There’s a lot of members just yakking away about how great their business is, a lot of “consultants” and “mentors”, and “life coaches”.

Who do you know…?

It can make a huge difference in business if you know a lot of people.

And I don’t mean Facebook “friends”.

What you need are serious contacts, people who can teach you something, provide a valuable service, or connect you with more serious people.     Don’t limit your contacts to your town, or even country.    People you can learn from and even work with don’t even have to live near you.    Correspond regularly with people anywhere in the world who share your interests and enthusiasm.   You can even Skype ( free internet video phone ) for free.   Download the free Skype software and get going on it.

In the old days, people used a Rolodex, ( rolling index ), and powerful people had a lot of names on theirs.

These days, you can use contact software that is totally amazing.    It can keep track of mailings, responses, dates, all kinds of stuff, while you do other things to run your business.

You can also meet a lot of people on Twitter.  But, don’t just rack up “followers”, just to have a big number and ego to go with it.    Actually communicate with these people, learn from them, build relationships over time.

Do I need a website?

Do you need to have a website to make money online?

To tell the truth… NO, not at all. But, it will help you a lot to have one.

Let me explain…..

If you don’t have a website, you can still put money-making affiliate links in your emails, social media sites, and by using Twitter.    People can and do make money that way online.

If you have a website, or better yet, many websites, you can greatly expand your reach on the internet. Plus, you can have some material there that explains your offers, affiliates, etc.

Getting a website is NOT complicated these days. Far from it.  You can have a site up within an hour.

If you are awkward around computers, have a friend who knows a bit about computers help you.

Step one:    Buy a domain name.

There are TONS of places online to get one.   Pick good words or letters for your domain. Clear, simple, attractive domain names using one or two words ONLY ( EX: ) are not so easy.     A lot of catchy names have been bought already, and in many cases, the buyers are “squatting” on the domain, hoping someone will want to buy it for multiples of what they paid.   Some domain names are so valuable they command 6 figure prices.  It’s crazy, but it’s true.

But, if you are really clever, there are thousands of words in the dictionary, and you can come up with something attractive.   A basic domain can be purchased for around 10 to 15 dollars per year.

Try this place: Lunar, in the active link below.    They host sites, too.   I have used Lunar Pages for years and always received great service.   Their admin control panel has tons of features, stats, plug-ins, file managers, FTP, and more.

Now, a word about domain names to dispel some illusions.

If you don’t believe that, do a little research.    There was once a company called  that did a huge launch on a Superbowl day and fell flat on it’s face.    Another company now owns that domain.

If you expect something good from your website you must have good content that people like, and that advertisers also like.  You must have good products, and you have to get people to take a look in the first place.

A lot of REALLY popular sites have domain names that sound like gibberish, or are just initials.

DON”T get a domain name like ”

think about your product, your market and and your customers, not yourself, when you choose a domain name.

Get a website hosting package. Best to have it hosted where you bought it, but that’s not necessary, just more complicated. Packages for hosting vary widely so do some research. It’s possible to host a very large site for only 10 dollars a month or so. I call that a real deal.

Step 3:

There are many ways to create and load a website onto the internet at your hosting site. You can create all the pages from scratch using one of many site design programs. Most of these are very easy to use, but there are ways even easier..

You can buy a full website template online in many places. You review the templates, select one, pay a small fee ( 20 to 100 dollars ), and get a fully designed site with working links. You have it set up onto your hosting site location, and then tweak it with different text, colors, graphics, etc. There are templates available for just about every type of business or industry, and the prices are very reasonable.

Another thing you can do, even Easier, is to go to the control panel of your website hosting company, and use one of the plug-ins to download WordPress, for example. WordPress is a very simple to use publishing software that is free. Once you install it on your site hosting, you can go select one of hundreds of designs, install them for free, then start publishing your site, making pages and posts, adding photos, links, Google ads, and so on.

Step 3:   Getting traffic

There are truly a LOT of ways to get website traffic.  Some are free, some are not, and the free ones can sometimes work better and faster than the expensive ways.

If you hope to get noticed with steady growth, you should try to use as many ways to get traffic as you can think of.

Here are some really interesting ways:

For a long time,  had a dirigible, a blimp, that flew around the country, with a big sign on the side.     That was a long time ago and I still remember it.   Almost everyone knows about by now.

you could bike across the country wearing a t-shirt.  You would get into local news, etc.

What you need to do, seriously, is think about what visitors will find on your pages when they get there.

Google needs you to make money

Do you know that Google wants you to make a lot of money ?

Google needs people to put up great content websites that attract visitors who can see Google’s Adsense ads.

You may not realize that Google needs highly specific content, sometimes in very narrow niche markets that are not being served.  You may be just the someone with expertise in something that Google has advertisers for, waiting for good content to put their ads on.

Go to the Google home page, and if you don’t have an account, sign up for one.  Then, read through information about their advertising programs.   Google pays money for click throughs and searches

Make money using Ebay, info

Why does this work?

Friends, the economy is shifting very rapidly and a lot of people are not up to speed.

It may sound crazy to earn money online while you sleep, but it works for good reasons.

Here’s why:

Business and sales depend on communication with customers and suppliers through advertising.    That’s always been true, but reaching target audiences has been difficult.

Once upon a time, the only way a business could get customers was by using signs, and even that was limited to a local area.    In those days sign painters had it really good.     No sign, no sales.     That was also the era of door to door salespeople.    Wow, try to imagine that today !

Then, there are newspapers , magazines, and radio, which have become very powerful marketing tools.    They became the staple in advertising for a long time.  Then came TV and at first, only a few channels were available, now there are hundreds.

Problem is, TV and magazine advertising is VERY expensive, has to be planned way in advance,  and there’s still no guarantee anyone who sees the ads are good buyer prospects.

The internet has changed all advertising forever.

Why?  Because the internet can reach highly specific categories of customers, who are on a page because of a search, and most important;    the internet advertisements can track, time,  and measure responses to advertising.

That’s an advertiser’s dream, knowing their ad is being seen by someone who is truly interested in a particular product or service.     Today, you can advertise your business online through many different methods and know that most of the people seeing your ad are very good prospects.

And the price for that incredible, specific, tailor made advertising?   Much, much cheaper than TV and print media.

That’s why advertisers are leaping into cyberspace advertising  like never before.

Some other advantages of advertising online ?

Speed.    You can place an ad now that will be seen now, or in just a few minutes, by a lot of people.

Range:  “Viral” marketing, where one of your ads gets spread around all over the place by other people, for free.

Price:    Cost per targeted audience is very reasonable, providing you are specific enough in your ad and keywords.

Reach:   You can reach around the world, literally, with an online ad.

Shipping:     It’s possible today to ship things almost anywhere, and have someone pick it up at your home or office and take it far away to your customer.

And now, one of the biggest factors of all for online income

Downloadable Information Products, or DIP’s:    You can sell something that requires no inventory, no warehouse, no sales staff, and virtually no cost to  create, just make another electronic copy and send it on its way.

Since the cost of production and delivery is extremely small, the price can be set very reasonably to attract buyers,  AND there’s still enough profit to allow seller and agent ( affiliate ) to both make a huge percent of the total sale.

That is a revolution in business, my friends.   It’s happening now and will be accelerating in years to come.

And YOU can benefit if you understand what’s going on and how to take advantage of the changing economy.

Please read information on this site, click on various links and do research.    Almost anyone can find a way to make at least SOME money online, even if they like their current job.

Ebay, fast cash

What do I do if I’m really low on money and need cash FAST

Okay folks,      I know how it feels to be poor, believe me.

First thing, collect yourself, there are things you can do to make some cash soon.     There are a number of things that you can do, not just one thing.

Step one

Do you have a bank account?    If so, go online to Paypal, and set up an account with them.  Paypal asks for a bank account that you can use to transfer money to and from.   What happens is you create an account so you can get paid online from anywhere by anyone who has a paypal account or credit / debit card.    You need that first so you can collect the money you’re going to make.     Look at these option and see if it’s something you can do.

Idea 1

Selling something you got for free on Ebay

Find some stuff to sell on ebay.      If you think you don’t have anything, think again.     Just about everything sells on Ebay, and sometimes you can sell stuff right away, with a BUY IT NOW price to your Paypal account that you set up.  They pay for shipping, too, so don’t worry about that.

Look around your house, yard, ask friends or neighbors, and get some stuff together.   What you are looking for is something with fairly high value ( 30 or more dollars ), that you can easily ship.    It can’t be real bulky, like a bicycle or furniture.    Lego, watches, old pens, clocks, useful small appliances, stereos, CD players, games, quality clothes.     You can research on ebay what stuff sells, so go onto their site and set up an account.     Generally, the higher quality the merchandise, the more likely it will sell fast for more money.  In other words, the name brands.

Just because it’s big or bulky doesn’t mean you can’t sell it on Ebay.   Just make sure it’s worth a good penny, worth shipping or delivering.  You can always lists something as “local pickup only”, great for cars, machinery, furniture, etc.     And, you will be surprised what people in say, Japan, or China, will pay in shipping to get things like vintage cameras, tube amps, etc.     Do some research.

Take some DECENT pictures of the thing you’re selling

I can’t tell you how many times I got a great deal on something because the photo was terrible, but I knew its value.     You don’t need a pro photographer or camera.    Use a decent point and shoot digital camera, use daylight, or near a window.   Have an uncluttered contrasting background, and take several photos, not just one.  People will buy what they can see.   Give them a good view from several angles.   If it’s a small item and you need a closeup, don’t expect a cheap digital camera to do macro shots, although many of them have a setting for that.   take a photo at a proper focus distance, in high resolution mode, and later crop it down to size so you can see details.

Follow through on the Ebay listing process, load up a few good photos, write a full, informative, and accurate description, and select a price.     To find a price, type is some searches on Ebay for your item, see what’s out there selling, and look at the prices.    Look at completed listings ( ebay has a box you can check to see ended auctions  ).

If you need money really fast, list your item with a very attractive BUY IT NOW price.    You will likely get a fast sale if it’s something in demand.

Selecting the item to sell.

List your best and biggest value items first, get them going.  Then work on the smaller stuff.     They will sell too, but it can take as much time and effort to sell a small item as it does to sell a bigger item.

Choose something you can manage to ship and pack easily.   UPS can pick it up, or you can take it to the post office.      Things that are not fragile are even better, like clothes, or baseball gloves.   You don’t want to have any broken items or your reputation on Ebay will suffer.     Always leave our customers feedback.   Most of them will respond in kind.

Now, watch your auctions, like little baby trees.

See how many visitors and watchers there are.     For every few “watchers”, there will be a   “bidder”.      Try adjusting the price on slow moving items.   If it’s a hot item, you’ll have watchers or even bidders quite fast.

I often use a 10 day auction.   You have to pay a tiny bit, like 40 cents, and wait 3 more days.    It always pays off with more bids and higher sale price.    Include a BUY IT NOW price if you want a fast sale.   Don’t worry if the bids seem low.   A lot of  people but in a minimal bid at first, but they are watching it.     Many times, the last few minutes of the auction is where the price really spikes up.   If you have more than one bidder, that’s a really good sign.

People are looking for bargains, so don’t ask for the moon.

If you need fast cash, sell stuff fast for good prices and just go get more stuff.  There’s PLENTY of stuff around to sell on Ebay.   You can get a lot of stuff free if you know where to go:   yard sales, rummage sales, town dumps ( Yes, people throw away thousands of dollars worth of valuables stuff. )

I have a friend who used to make 10,000 dollars a year selling stuff he got at the dump, before it went into the crusher.   That income saved his house and his marriage, and allowed him to spend a lot of time with his young children.

Take a look around your home, then go onto Ebay.  Start making some money, my friend.   You have hidden cash all over the place.

What skills do I need?

What skills do you need to make money online?

Well, that’s a really good question.

If you read some of these pitches, you’ll start thinking a dog can do make a fortune online.     Not quite.

The truth is, you need to know how to do some things.

You need to read, write, listen, think, take notes, and plan.

You need to get online, type some words to sign up, copy and paste text, type in words to research on some websites.
